The Oil Mining Process.
Upon drilling oil comes out of the ground as crude oil that has to be refined through scientific processes to come up with the different components of oil that we have today. The oil formation process is pretty simple as dead organisms drop dead and sink deep into the earth they decay over millions of years and we end up having crude oil. The earth experiences some movement under the plates and in result the movements trap oil and natural gas between the reservoir rocks.
Oil drilling companies have contributed to making the world what it is today, without them the energy industry wouldn’t be as we know it. To have oil, exploration followed by extraction has to take place and it’s all the work of oil companies. Geologists are the professionals that are entrusted with the finding of oil, this is the exploration part. They look for areas that have good conditions that may trap oil . Gravilty could pin point the direction in which the oil is flowing for this reason the geologist needs to observe and measure the changes that occur in the earth’s gravity. 3D and 4D seismic imaging can also be used in the locating of oil in the reservoir rocks of the earth. This kind of imaging works by sending some shocks deep into the crust of the earth.
The reflections of the waves are then sent back to the surface of the earth where the geologist will then analyze them to have some results. The moment oil exploration reveals that there are good deposits of oil that can be extracted then the area is marked, if under water buoys are used and if on land they mark the coordinates. When an area has been identified , extraction does not begin right away. The geologist continues with their work by marking perimeter boundaries of the area, and also coming up with report s of the environmental impact. The oil company will proceed to get the rights that allows them to break ground and start mining. When all the rights and titles have been obtained the company can comfortably begin and it starts with clearing of trees and any obstructions to the area. To move machinery easily the company starts by coming up with some access roads to the area to move machines with ease.
Water is important and needed in the drilling process and that is why the company will first drill boreholes if there is no water nearby. Disposal of the rock and mud from the drilling is necessary and that is why the company will dig pits prior for the dumping. Drilling can begin as soon as a pit is made around the main drilling hole to enable access to the area.
